"The work of Rakefet Viner Omer - an interdisciplinary artist who paints, creates installations and videos, writes and curates - features rich themes with a Feminist stress. In her paintings, she uses strategies of "bad painting" to undermine the cultural Canon and the institutions of good taste, exposing what is usually suppressed to the social margin. This expressive strategy manifests itself in restless paintings inspired by Trash culture and characterized by a lavish use of paint, an extreme color scheme and the incorporation of excoriating texts scribbled in childish script. They feature a menagerie of eccentric types, a bevy of distorted, neurotic figures whose eyes are shut tight, whose mouths are closed and whose gestures are ridiculous. These strategies of conscious exaggeration award the paintings distinct grotesque characteristics, perceived by the artist as both necessity and motivation."
